No Valid Driver’s License – NVDL
Miami NVDL Defense Lawyer
No Valid Driver’s License (NVDL) is often confused with Driving While License Suspended (DWLS) because usually police officers do not know how to read a person’s driving record or traffic print out (TPO). This charge is usually issued to people who have actually never had a valid driver’s license and therefore does not affect a person’s Habitual Traffic Offender (HTO) status.
DWLS is broken down into two different charges. DWLS with knowledge of the suspension is a second degree misdemeanor, and prosecutors will try to pin this on you if they think they can prove it. This presents an opportunity for your DWLS attorney to get the charge changed to DWLS without knowledge, which is a non-criminal infraction.
Although an NVDL charge is preferable, it is still a second degree misdemeanor. Penalties can run as high as a $500 fine and 60 days in jail. And although jail time can often be avoided, a conviction will result in a permanent criminal record, which may be the worst part.
Dismissal of charges or acquittal at trial are your best outcome. I can help you find the defense to a case you think you can’t win. What are some of the defenses against NVDL and DWLS charges in Miami?
- Was the traffic stop lawful?
- Was the defendant unlawfully detained?
- Did the defendant have knowledge of the suspension?
- Did the defendant in fact have a valid license?
A good Miami NVDL attorney will look for any chance for a dismissal or acquittal, even if it will require more work, thought, and preparation. Don’t go with an attorney who will look for just any plea bargain with the state and jump at the chance to collect a fee and close your case. Trust me, Jordan Redavid, to fight tooth-and-nail for your rights.
Whether you are charged with NVDL, DWLS, or are fighting an HTO designation, I know how to get your charges reduced, your penalties minimized, or get you acquitted entirely. And I don’t make promises I can’t keep. Let me evaluate your case free of charge, and I will tell you a plan of action for us to take as a team.
